Your Coach

Ben (Lightning) Acosta

I’m a lifelong martial artist and a 4th-degree Black Belt in Bill Packer’s American Kenpo Karate, taught by my father, Mike Acosta (AKKA school owner). I also hold a Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I’m a certified martial arts instructor through AKKA Karate USA, as well as a certified instructor for Chuck Norris’ KICKSTART KIDS nonprofit organization—working with at-risk youth in Pflugerville, TX and Houston, TX, and coaching the citywide demonstration team.

I’ve competed as an amateur kickboxer, earning several titles including Southwest Amateur Lightweight Kickboxing Champion, Texas State Amateur Welterweight Champion, and CCKA U.S. Jr. Lightweight Champion. I’ve gone on to fight professionally in both kickboxing and Muay Thai, holding the WMTA Muay Thai Title. I’m currently fighting for Glory Kickboxing!

I also have experience as both an amateur and professional MMA fighter, training and competing out of JacksonWink MMA. I’m certified in Kettlebell, TRX, and Bulgarian Bag training. Above all, I genuinely love helping others reach their full potential—physically and mentally.

Random facts: I’m a huge fan of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, 3 Ninjas, Enter the Dragon, Bloodsport, and way too many more to name. I also love anime—especially Dragon Ball Z, Hajime no Ippo, Kenichi, Death Note, and Kenshin.

My Coaching Beliefs

01 - Discipline Builds Confidence

I believe that consistent discipline—both physical and mental—creates real, lasting confidence. Through structured training and accountability, students discover their own strength and learn to trust it.

02 - Everyone Has a Fighter Inside

Whether you’re training for competition or for life, I believe there’s a fighter in everyone. My goal is to help people uncover their grit, unlock their potential, and push beyond what they thought was possible.

03 - Martial Arts Is a Tool for Life

I believe martial arts is more than self-defense or sport—it’s a foundation for character. Respect, resilience, and self-control learned on the mat carry into every part of life.
